What happens if a film critic leaves familiar home ground to write about films from another culture? Will it make sense? This and similar questions were tackled at the seminar 'Culture shocks, pitfalls and challenges for the exploring film critic', organised by the Circle of Dutch film journalists (KNF), in co-operation with the International Film festival Rotterdam, at january 31st 2001. The contributions to this meeting are collected in this publication, as well as the texts of the lectures by film scholar Wim Staat, filmmaker T.B. Srinivas and film critic Dana Linssen, interviews with director Clara Law and sales agent Wouter Barendrecht.
